The "Peace" Treaty

This one is quite interesting :)
Me and my sister were in our tens and like all kids we weredeveloping stubborn attitude. We used to play together and none of us ever wanted to loose so we always ended up fighting every now and then, irritating our mom. Being older I slowly realized losing is not such a bad thing and I wanted to put a full stop to fights.

Interestingly we were being taught about peace treaties between nations in our history classes. I asked our teacher if that really works and how is it done. She said all the terms and conditions are written down on paper and when both parties agree they sign and adhere to it. I was enlightened.

The next day I wrote "terms and conditions" for the peace treaty between me and my sister and explained to her pros and cons and we both signed (well we both just wrote names coz we had no well defined signature). I told her this is a legal document and she should always do whatever is written.

Now every time she started to fight, I used to show her peace treaty document and she used to calm down and read the terms and conditions again. She believed its a true document. This worked for many many months and she also finally realized loosing is not such a bad thing.

Weather peace treaties between nations work or not, it did work at my home (:P) and since then me and my sister haven't ever fought for any reason what so ever.

Magical word

During the first three years of my schooling my performance was very ordinary. My dad being a high school teacher had a habit of praising about brilliant students he was teaching in front of me and left me pondering what makes them so brilliant. I had a childish wish to occupy that space. I wanted him to talk about me and my performance. I had a very interesting attitude. The more people would discourage me, the harder I used to try.

It was a sunny day . My dad was struggling to balance the overburdened scooter on the dark tarry city roads amid slow speed traffic. It wasn't a comfortable ride but it was the only way our family could travel together. What else could you expect from a middle class family saving what ever they could for their kid's education. I broke my silence. I asked him how those students he always talks about outperformed everyone else. He said they are able to because they have........ . "willpower" ? "confidence"?? I just don't remember what he said but that was a turning point in my life.

Tests after tests I was moving up the ladder until there was nothing left to conquer. I used to look back and kept wondering why and how I made it. I skimmed through dictionary many many times but I could never conclude what that word was. Its recorded there somewhere deep in my subconscious mind.

So did dad praise me like the students he used to teach.
Nope
He just raised the bar even further.

Never give up..

I was the youngest in my classroom during my middle school days so everyone in my class was slightly taller than me. Every year school used to arrange games competition. All the students in the class were given a chance to participate in the first round of selection. I remember only participating in racing competition because my family never allowed me to participate in games outside school hours.

I used to try my best and yet was always the last few to complete the run. But I always completed the race not even recognizing that I would not be selected so it does not even matter if I don't finish. Many times I fell down and hurt myself but with bleeding knees I still completed the run. Year after year after year I kept participating until they allowed all of us despite being the last few to complete the race. For me the prize was not important. An opportunity to participate and a satisfaction to have completed the given task was important.

Life is a race. You may or may not win in the end but what matters is the fact that you availed all the opportunities you came across and stretched your muscles till the very end.
